Cherie Hearts Group International Pte Ltd started in 2001 as a partnership between Mr Sam Yap and his co-founder Dr Gurchran Singh. The company provides quality and innovative early childhood education and care for infants and children up to 12 years. Under the leadership of Mr Sam Yap and Dr Gurchran Singh, Cherie Hearts has grown to become a key player in the childcare industry within a few years. Cherie Hearts adopts a franchise system and has expanded rapidly, now with more than 50 childcare centres in Singapore.
As a young player in the industry, Cherie Hearts has managed to differentiate themselves from their competitors, as a premium brand offering excellent and quality services in early childhood education and care in Singapore.
Cherie Hearts aims to be an international household name and have already opened several overseas branches and have established their foothold in countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and China.
Dr Gurchran Singh and Mr Sam Yap first conceptualized the idea of setting up a childcare centre, through observations of their nieces and nephews. They recognised a change in the early childhood dynamics where the race for paper qualifications had superseded the need for childhood play and interaction within the family unit. They wanted to provide a one-stop childcare service and education centre. Overwhelming demand led to expansion and the organisation has grown to different business units meeting different needs.
Mr Sam Yap had worked in the public and private sector for over a decade before venturing into the child development industry where his passion lies. He partly attributes the journey he has had to his conviction in his passion and the support he has received from various parties. His prior experience in management and operations has also served him well. Currently, he serves the Group as the Group Executive Chairman overlooking the group’s business strategies and growth.
As Mr Sam Yap meet people and learn their success stories, he get more and more inspired and there is a wealth of information that he can tap on from the more mature and established entrepreneurs that I have had the good fortune of being acquainted to.
As an SME traversing beyond Singapore shores, the “Go and Trade Grant” initiated by Shell LiveWIRE is definitely an inspiring initiative and a morale booster, among others. This scheme provided funds to explore a possible market size of 600 million people in the Region. Cherie Hearts is proud and honoured to be one of the recipients of this grant, which is yet another remarkable initiative and effort by Shell LiveWIRE. Such initiatives keep SMEs moving in Singapore.
It has given him various channels of meeting potential franchisees, exploring different joint venture opportunities, corporate partnerships, etc. Above all, being part of Shell LiveWire has put him and my organization on a very good platform for future networking and business opportunities.
Having been able to establish a good operating system for my company, and with the support of the Shell LiveWire scheme, the world is now at his doorstep!
